What is Submetering?

Submetering is the process by which individual housing units can be made in charge of paying their own electricity bills in addition to having a single master meter for the utility charges in the common areas of the building. With submetering, tenants are responsible for their own electric consumption and only pay for the electricity they use. Submetered buildings get the bulk energy rate through the master meter and tenants can monitor their own usage through individual electric meters.
